If you are planning a short trip to someplace Udaipur is surely not going to let you down. Udaipur which is also called as city of Lakes or Lake City, consists of five main lakes, that is to say, Pichola Lake, Fateh Sagar Lake, Doodh Talai Lake, Rangsagar and Swaroopsagar. Like I said in my earlier post, I have been to Udaipur in 2014 and also in February this year. My first travel to the city was by bus, we took a sleeper bus to reach early in the morning to Udaipur(which was better as we didn’t waste a day travelling and got to explore more places to visit). However, this time we took a traveller with family which was fun altogether, but since we travelled during the day we missed a day exploring the city.
The first time we stayed at Jaiwana Haweli which gave us the best lake view room as our stay was around 3 nights. We enjoyed sunset and sunrise from our room. The second time we stayed at Hotel Raj Palace close to the City Palace. Both the hotels took good care of their guest (but my personal favourite was Jaiwana Haveli). Maps and info were available both the time so we didn’t have any trouble exploring the Udaipur. Most of the hotels are having rooftop restaurants, however, both the hotel owners suggested us other good restaurants (who does that??Right!!).
So with both the travelling experiences to Udaipur, here is my list of top ten places to visit in Udaipur:
This was a wonderful place which we regretted missing at the first time. A captivating and fascinating show called as Dharohar is held at this spot. In the form of dance and music, an effort is made to provide a peep of one of the most thrilling, colourful and spectacular elements of heritage. The artists we great and made our evening.
- City Palace, Museums
Words will be less to describe the City Palace, The Palace is near to Lake Pichola and has some striking features and design. The foundation was made by Maharana Udai Singh II and was later extended by its successor’s. The Palace incorporates many Mahal’s, like Moti Mahal, Manak Mahal, Chini Mahal, Zenana Mahal etc. Among them, Zenana Mahal was interesting and very colourful.
- Vintage & Classic Car
We saw the collection of these vintage car’s mostly used by the maharanas in our first trip. There are some wonderful stories related to these cars. Some of them are rare too, so car lovers should not miss this one out.
- Lake Pichola
Lake Pichola gives you the dreamy-romantic feel. You can get the feel from the nearby restaurants or hotels. The view of Lake Place which is situated on the Jagniwas Island in the middle of the lake and the view in the morning and night are simply stunning(if your pocket allows, you can stay there too). You can book a boat from the Bansi Ghat and indulge in the picturesque spot that is cradled amongst gardens hills, haveli’s, ghats and temples.
- Jagdish Temple
This beautiful temple is just near the busy street-Jagdish Chowk and is very close to the City Palace. It is the biggest and the most splendid temple in the city which is dedicated to Lord Vishnu.
- Sahelion ki Bari
This spot is near Lake Fateh Sagar, a blend of beautiful garden and fountains. The interesting fact is the water coming in these fountains are from the Lake Fateh Sagar.
- Lake Fateh Sagar
Although an artificial lake, but is scattered by woodlands and Aravali hills. Boat rides are available here too and sunsets are simply outstanding.
It is a crafts village a must see place to witness the cultural heritage, handicrafts and much more. Artisans, musicians and dancers put on a wonderful show. A craft fair is also hosted every year showcasing the crafts work and art.
- Sajjangarh Fort
The fort also, known as the Monsoon Palace, is on the top of a hill looking out on all over the city.
- Jag Mandir
Situated on an island in Lake Pichola, the Palace has a lot to offer with some refined stone carvings.
