Tips for a Perfect Road Trip

Going on a road trip is a whole lot of fun! It’s a perfect way to get to know a country, get closer with your travel buddies and simply have a low-cost adventure. However, if you want to have an unforgettable road trip (in a good way), you have to start your trip well prepared. Here are some tips for smooth and fun road tripping.

Check your car

A few weeks before your trip, make sure to have your car checked out. Ask for a fluid level and tire pressure check, brake test and any other fixes that might cause you problems on the road. Also, ensure your spare tire is in good condition, your jumper cables are packed and that you have some extra wiper fluids and headlight and tail light bulbs.

Clean up frequently

You can probably tolerate a few candy wrappers on the floor or some junk in the glove compartment, but if you don’t handle it soon, a few wrappers will turn into 10 and your glove box will overflow. So, make sure to clean your car every time you stop for a longer time to ensure you have a comfortable and junk-free trip.

Bring a map

Sure, GPS navigation is great, but getting around with a map is much more interesting. So, grab a map and a sharpie and track your route. Once you come home, you can frame it and have an amazing souvenir from your trip!

Boost entertainment

If you’re very specific about the music you want to listen on your trip, you can’t really rely on regional radio. So, make sure to update your car stereo to a newer model that allows you to play your own music from various sources. For instance, Pioneer car audio systems can be connected to your smartphone or USB stick and you can play whatever you want. Just create a good Spotify playlist (or find ones listed under Road Trip) and enjoy the best music. Car concerts are also allowed, encouraged even!

Ensure good roadside assistance

You might not run into a problem on your first road trip, but if you take enough of them, you’re bound to stop somewhere East of Nowhere. If that happens, you’ll be very happy to have good roadside assistance. The operator will connect you with an approved local tow service or mechanic that will help you get back on the road.

Make a gas card

Spending this much time on the road means a lot of gas! Your gas card will get you fueled up, save you money on gas and even provide you with hotel discounts and some great grocery and restaurant offers!

Carry some cash

Sure, plastic is much more practical, but you’ll need cash for tolls and many other little necessities and souvenirs. It’s always good to have a few dollars and coins for these little expenses.

Be loose with your plans

Road trips offer the freedom very few other activities offer, so make sure not to limit it with unnecessary schedules and timetables. Having a loose plan is very useful, but you don’t have to be at a certain destination at a certain time no matter what! If you feel like driving more or having a longer rest, by all means, do it.

Check in frequently

Being on the road can be dangerous, no matter where you are, so make sure to text your parents, family members or friends to inform them of your whereabouts. This way, in case anything happens, the police will have a good record of your trip and your last known location.

With these tips, your next road trip will be a great success. You’ll have all the fun without any stress and unpleasant surprises!
