Buying the perfect anniversary gift can at times seem harder than marriage itself, but it doesn’t have to be an impossible task. The main thing you have to remember is not to wait until the last second to find the right gift. Sure, no-occasion gifts are cute, but if you run into one that is really special, save it for the next anniversary so that you don’t have to stress about what you’re going to get. But if you did wait for the last minute to pick something out, here’s a handy guide to help you out!
Life can be stressful and repetitive and all of that can put a strain on a marriage, so your anniversary can be the perfect time to get away from all of that and enjoy each other’s company. Remember that you don’t have to do anything big, and there’s no point in going into debt to have a relaxing vacation. If you’re in Sydney, just taking a room near a beach and enjoying yourself can be a great way to unwind. You can stay right there in the town you live in, just get a hotel room where someone will pamper you and hire someone to make your home nice and tidy for when you come back. Simply take some time to relax and let go of all responsibilities for a weekend. If you can budget it, try going to a spot that you’ve been talking about for a while. Remember that an anniversary gift doesn’t have to be one-sided. You can split the cost of a vacation and have it as a joined gift to yourselves.
Remember that the gift itself doesn’t have to be something that happens on the same day as your anniversary. You can find a concert that your SO would really like to go to and gift them tickets for the concert on the date, even if the event itself is happening a few months down the line. Or if you want something local and yet luxurious, you can look for food tastings in your surroundings. If you’re in Australia, you can find amazing whiskey tasting in Sydney at Archie Rose Distillery. Or if you prefer beer, some craft breweries offer tours around the brewery, as well as tastings at the end.
A touch of the past
If your SO has a piece of jewelry that they lost a long time ago, or perhaps a piece of clothing, wouldn’t it be an amazing gift if you were to find something similar (or the exact replica, if it exists) and gift them that? You can also try to dig up some old items and polish them up, like old family heirlooms or something from when you guys first met.
Something from the heart
Of course, a gift that will be most cherished is something that you make yourself and that you put a lot of thought and work into. It can be a scrapbook, a poem or anything that you make yourself. These gifts can sometimes look a bit childish, especially if you’re not gifted in the field of arts, but you can also put in a lot of thought and have a piece commissioned for your loved one, like a portrait or a tattoo if they are a collector. If they said they wanted to try a new skill, you can get lessons with an expert for you both (or just them).
Remember that the most important thing is to stay away from generic gifts that simply scream “I forgot about the anniversary and picked this off a shelf half an hour ago!”. Put some love into the gift and it will most certainly be appreciated. And if you both agree that you don’t want to exchange gifts – that’s perfectly fine as well. Simply make yourselves a nice meal, cuddle up together and enjoy each other’s
